Introduction to Crisis Management
This one day workshop is designed to meet the needs of Counsellors, Youth Workers, Teachers,
Managers, Volunteers and other whose work involves violent situations. Participants will explore
principles, concepts and practise strategies in dealing with the resistant and potentially aggressive
clients. Instructional techniques utilized include lecture, group discussion, role play simulations
and personal and organizational inventories.

Crisis Intervention and Prevention: Defusing Anger, Hostility and Resistance in Conflict
Situations
This workshop is particularly useful for dealing with anger or violence in clients, others and
ourselves. Individuals in crisis may respond to a sense of helplessness and loss of control through
withdrawal, depression, suicide attempts or overtly through angry outbursts and/or violent attacks.
The intent is to help workers to respond to individuals in their care through enhanced personal
awareness, communica-tion and disengaging skills. We will focus on defusing the level of arousal,
practising interventions which facilitate client self-control and forming coalitions which concentrate
on problem solving.

Conflict Resolution/Management
This two-day workshop provides an overview of the major principles and methods involved in
conflict resolution and conflict management. Using an experiential and information sharing design,
participants will examine conflict from both a personal and organizational framework. This
includes an exploration of one's own personal history and present day associations with conflict
situations. In addition, the workshop will focus on formal and informal conflict resolution models;
recommended styles which foster effective conflict management; factors which escalate conflictual
situations and skills for responding to different people.

A 5 Day Train-the-Trainer Crisis Intervention and Prevention Program:
Defusing Anger, Hostility and Resistance in Conflict Situations
This workshop will train interested individuals to deliver a 3 day crisis intervention and
prevention training program within their organizations. Participants will be introduced to
experiential designs, adult learning theory, group dynamics, facilitation and presentation skills.
Individuals will explore their strengths, preferences and trainer style with the assistance of a variety
of inventories. This is an intensive training program involving group presentations,
co-facilitating practise and individual processing of experiential designs. Participants applying to
this program must have completed CTI's 3 day Crisis Intervention and Prevention Program within
the past 3 years.
5 Day workshop involving evening work and follow-up meeting

Advanced Crisis Intervention with Philip Perry Ph.D.: The Break Down to
Break Through Approach
This workshop is designed to challenge "seasoned" crisis interveners in ways that promote self
evaluation as well as stimulates new and revitalized ways to make a difference with others in crisis
situations.

Introduction to Effective case Management Practices: Reducing the risk of
reoffending by utilizing a crime cycle analysis and a relapse prevention approach.
Participants will explore and apply in practise the principles which have emerged in the literature
on "What works" (Andrews, Bonta, Gendreau, Ross & Fabiano). We will conduct risk/needs
assessments, complete comprehensive psycho-social and criminal histories, and crime cycle
analysis in identifying the risks posed and the criminogenic needs of the individual you are working
with. We will utilize both a social learning approach and relapse prevention contracts as a
means of implementing effective case management practices. We will explore the stages of change
model, approaches which facilitate individual commitment and, skill building practises in
developing internal management skills.
